LOS ANGELES, 03/25/10 - The most qualified overseas event in the history of Italian cinema involving US distributors and theatre owners as well as global media that had the opportunity to discover some of the leading personalities in the fields of arts and tourism of Campania region.
This year line-up included some real legends of Italian cinema as well as eminent contemporary artists such as the eight Italian-American Oscar-nominees, including the two winners: Mauro Fiore, winner of an Academy Award as best Cinematographer for the box-office hit Avatar and Michael Giacchino, Oscar for the Best Music Score of the animation sensation Up. The other six Oscar-nominees were make-up artists Aldo Signoretti and Sodano; screenwriters Armando Iannucci and Alessandro Camon; music composer Marco Beltrami; sound engineer Tony Lamberti. Italy was also represented by Neapolitan director Gabriele Salvatores, as well as by Luca Guadagnino, Fabio De Luigi, Massimo Ghini, Christian De Sica, Isabella Ragonese, Franco Nero, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Marco Bonini, Edoardo Leo, Leopoldo Mastelloni, the “maestro Enzo G. Castellari and tenor Andrea Bocelli. Among the guest stars: Quentin Tarantino, Forest Whitaker, Sylvester Stallone, Samuel L. On the eve of the magical Oscar night, for the fifth year in a row, “Los Angeles, Italia” has been an extraordinary opportunity for the
ARTISTIC CHAMPIONS
OF ITALIAN FILM PRODUCTION
Thanks to the participation of some of the most eminent and leading players of Italian culture, society and entertainment industry such as legendary Italian filmmaker Enzo G. Castellari, who has been honored on Sunday, February 28th by Quentin Tarantino (nominated to 8 Academy Awards for his latest movie “Inglourious Basterds” inspired to Castellari’s “Quel maledetto treno blindato”, AKA” Inglorious bastards”) who went to Mann Chinese 6 Theatre to pay tribute to his iconic master; or tenor Andrea Bocelli who on March 2nd, received the legendary “star” on the Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, after a gala event organized, for the first time ever in the history of Italian showbiz, in the historical Grauman’s Chinese Theatre where, before 1,000 people, Bocelli was honored by American actress Rosario Dawson. On the same night, American music producer David Foster received an award by Neapolitan director Gabriele Salvatores.
THE EVENT
World or American premières, meetings with the leading US distributors as well as with eminent representatives of world film production industries; conferences with the “big shots” of International communication and with the young talents of the main California university; music and acting performances: these are the activities that have relaunched Italian contemporary entertainment industry as well as the great Italian cinematic tradition during the week preceding the Oscars.
“Los Angeles, Italia 2010” – produced by the technical arm of the Capri in the World Institute, chaired by Italian-American screenwriter Bobby Moresco (Oscar winner for “Crash”) with the direct involvement of co-chairs Paul Haggis and Steven Zaillian (film directors), Mark Canton, Marina Cicogna, Aurelio De Laurentiis, Franco Nero e Tony Renis, with Pascal Vicedomini as executive producer – has played a key strategic role to back up the communication efforts and strategies in favor of Italian arts and culture thanks to the well consolidated and exclusive cooperation of the Capri in the World Institute and the American financial holding CIM Group Retail (the owners of the Kodak Theatre, Grauman’s and Mann Chinese 6 Theatre as well as of the Hollywood & Highland Center, the facilities that host the Academy Awards).

The event was significantly followed by US television also due to attendance of two great American film stars who have welcome their colleague and friend Gabriele Salvatores at Mann Chinese 6 Theatre on the night of the premiere: Sylvester Stallone and Samuel L. Jackson, two legends of worldwide cinema who proved the passion and the interest of Hollywood for our artists who continue to get momentum thanks to their talent and contents. After the recent success of Italian film director Gabriele Muccino, the time has come for the upcoming Hollywood debut of Neapolitan film director Paolo Sorrentino who will direct a great American star: Sean Penn.
