MAURO FIORE AND MICHAEL GIACCHINO GETS THE OSCAR. THE BEST WAY TO CELEBRATE THE ITALIAN PRIDE IN HOLLYWOOD
LOS ANGELES, March 8, 2010 - ITALIAN OSCAR TO MAURO FIORE for the Best Cinematography of the movie "Avatar" By James Cameron. «Viva l’Italia» said satisfactorily Mauro Fiore in his speech after receiving the Oscar as Best Cinematographer for Avatar, the first in his career, Mauro Fiore, born in Calabria, Italy, moved to the USA when he was 7 and lived in Chicago. After some years, his parents went back to Italy but he decided to stay in the States, where he started a career in Hollywood at Janush Kaminsky’s school. He has worked in around 20 feature films including Training Day. This is the third Oscar for Avatar, that also won the Academy Award for Best Special Effects to Joe Letteri, Stephen Rosenbaum, Richard Baneham and Andrew R. Jones.
THE PRESTIGIOUS AWARD TO ITALIAN-AMERICAN GIACCHINO Italian-American composer Michael Giacchino won the Oscar for the best music score of Up. With grandparents from Abruzzi, Giacchino obtained the Italian citizenship in 2009. Michael Giacchino knows exactly what he wants and filmmaking is not a waste of time. These were the final words of his speech after receiving the Oscar for the best music score of the animated feature film ‘Up’ (the second one for the Pixar’s film). Giacchino invited all youngsters not to give up on their dreams about filmmaking. «When I was a kid, – remembered Giacchino – my parents have always supported me. All those around me have always said to me that my dreams were not a waste of time ». «Many young people – concluded – cannot count on the same support I always had. And I say to them: believe in your dreams ». Giacchino was born in New Jersey, but in 2009 he obtained the Italian citizenship. In fact, his grandparents came from Abruzzi and Sicily. In 2008 Giacchino obtained an Academy Award nomination for the music score of ‘Ratatouille’. Another Italian composer, Marco Beltrami, was nominated this year for the music score of ‘The Hurt Locker’
