BEST ACTOR OSCAR® NOMINEE MICKEY ROURKE COME OUT TO SUPPORT ITALIAN CINEMA AND ATTEND THE 4TH LOS ANGELES ITALIA FEST. AT MANN CHINESE 6 THEATRE
LOS ANGELES, 2/20/09 - Best Actor Oscar® Nominee MICKEY ROURKE (The Wrestler), Oscar® Winners Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco (Crash), Steven Zaillian (Schindler's List) show their support for Italian cinema by attending weeklong festival.
WHAT: THE 4TH ANNUAL LOS ANGELES, ITALIA – FILM, FASHION AND ART FESTIVAL, a week long (Feb. 15-21) pre-Oscar celebration showcasing Italy’s contribution to the arts in a way that is typically Italian; relaxed, stylish, entertaining and exciting. Screening this evening is the U.S premiere of Franco Cristaldi: An Italian Legend, a docu-film about the life of one of the most important Oscar winning producers in the history of Italian cinema. From the 1950’s to the beginning of the 1990’s, Franco Cristaldi was responsible for more than 100 films, including Oscar-winners Cinema Paradiso, Amarcord and Divorce Italian Style.
Additional U.S. premieres at Los Angeles-Italia from directors considered the finest visionaries of today’s Italian cinema include: Giovanna’s Father from director Pupi Avati, The Last Pulcinella, starring Italian superstar Massimo Ranieri, Christian de Sica: Talk About Me, featuring the son of actor Vittorio De Sica.
Throughout the week, LA ITALIA presents special screenings, meetings and informal discussions with noted directors, writers, actors and producers of International cinema who have gathered in Los Angeles for Oscar® Night. Highlights include ‘Made in Italy’ photo and costume exhibits, conferences with students from the USC School of Cinema and Television, food and wine tasting, and workshops at the Italian Cinema Lounge of the Hollywood & Highland Center.
