HOLLYWOOD CELEBRATRES THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF “CINEMA PARADISO”. SPECIAL MUSIC PERFORMANCE BY ANDREA GRIMINELLI AND ANDREA MORRICONE WITH A TRIBUTE TO PRODUCER FRANCO CRISTALDI
LOS ANGELES, 20/02/09 - Hollywood pays a tribute to the twentieth anniversary of "Nuovo Cinema Paradiso", the Oscar-winning film directed by Giuseppe Tornatore and one the
most beloved Italian films ever: this special event will include a concert by flautist Andrea Griminelli also featuring Andrea Moricone (the author of
the love theme of the film) and a tribute to legendary Italian producer Franco Cristaldi with the American premiere of the documentary directed by Massimo Spano 'Franco Cristaldi e il suo cinema Paradiso' presented by producer Zeudi Araya Cristaldi.
"Nuovo Cinema Paradiso" opened in the theatres - in the final edition chosen by Cristaldi - in 1989 and was immediately acclaimed by audience and critics alike. The film was awarded the Special Jury Grand Prix at Cannes Film
Festival and the following year it was the recipient of the Academy Award as Best Foreign Film. The music score of the film, starring a magnificent and unforgettable Philippe Noiret, was composed by Ennio Morricone in association with Andrea who in 1990 received a BAFTA (the English equivalent of the Oscar) for the love theme of the film.
"Nuovo Cinema Paradiso" tells the story of a journey into his past and his memories of Salvatore De Vita, a successful film director from Sicily who has moved to Rome and who goes back to his home place for the funeral of his
old friend Alfredo. A nostalgic and evocative tale about the magic of cinema considered as something that has been lost for ever, that the leading character has experienced since he was a kid in the company of Alfredo.
Among the actors appearing in the film, young Salvatore Locascio, as well as Leopoldo Trieste, Leo Gullotta, Isa Danieli e Jacques Perrin.
