“LOS ANGELES, ITALIA” PAYS TRIBUTE TO ANTHONY MINGHELLA: THE ANGLO-ITALIAN DIRECTOR WHO FELL IN LOVE WITH THE “BELPAESE”. HOMAGES TO FEDERICO FELLINI, DE SICA AND PONTECORVO. CHECK THE PROGRAM

LOS ANGELES, 26/01/09 – The special tribute to director Anthony Mighella is the first of a four-fold tribute by Los Angeles, Italia 2009. The Anglo-Italian filmmaker, who passed away prematurely in March 2008,
was in love with the Italian Peninsula to such an extent that he chose it to shoot several films among which “The English Patient”. This was the film that won him 9 Oscar in 1997, along with the “The Talented Mr.Ripley” and “Breaking and Entering” which will be screened to remember him. During the 4th Los Angeles, Italia – Film, Fashion and Art Fest a special section will be devoted to the new Italian cinema with the participation of Pupi Avati, Christian De Sica and Massimo Ranieri.
Maria Sole Tognazzi (L’uomo che ama), Marco Pontecorvo (Pa-Ra-Da) and Brando De Sica (Parlami di Me) are the first three talents of the young generation of filmmakers who have been invited to Hollywood to the traditional event (15th – 21st of February) on the eve of the Oscars’ night. The actress and producer Maria Grazie Cucinotta, very much loved in Hollywood for playing Beatrice in “Il Postino” by M. Radford and M. Troisi, will be the patroness of the event organized by the “Istituto Capri nel mondo” in association with the “Istituto Italiano di Cultura” of Los Angeles and the CIM Group-Retail , along with Eni, and Casinò di Venezia under the auspices of the Council of Ministers – Department for Tourism – the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, the Department of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of the Campania region, the Presidency of the Lazio region.
Among the various events on the agenda a mini-retrospective of 6 films by Pupi Avati starting on Sunday 15th with the première of “Il papà di Giovanna”; a tribute to Federico Fellini whose foundation named after the legendary artist of “La Dolce Vita” is chaired by Avati himself; a homage to Vittorio De Sica with the screening of his masterpiece “Bicycle Thieves” (Oscar 1954) which has been recently restored by Casinò di Venezia and the De Sica Foundation. The official program of the happening will be presented at the Foreign Press offices in Rome on Monday February 2nd (Via della Mercede).
