GLOBAL SUPERSTARS CELEBRATE FILM AT THE 11TH ANNUAL CAPRI, HOLLYWOOD – THE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL TO TAKE PLACE FROM DECEMBER 27th – JANUARY 2nd ON ISLAND OF CAPRI, ITALY
Island of Capri, Italy - October 16, 2006 – International screen stars and industry leaders of the European, American and Italian film communities will celebrate the ever-evolving culture of cinema at the 11th Annual Capri, Hollywood - The International Film Festival on the spectacular Isle of Capri, Italy from December 27th through January 2nd.
Capri, Hollywood – The International Film Festival has established itself over the past decade as one of the world’s most distinguished Winter-season film festivals – boasting an array of film premieres and screenings of this year’s most critically acclaimed projects along with screenings of some of Italy’s greatest classics, round-table discussions with renowned industry leaders from around the world. Actor Giancarlo Giannini will chair this year’s event. He will be joined by co-chair and Academy Award winning producer Marina Cicogna.
Founded in 1995 by Pascal Vicedomini, CEO of the Capri in the World Institute, Capri, Hollywood - The International Film Festival pays homage to the cultural evolution of film through artistic expression and to the Italian-American tradition that has established such a clear presence in the heart of American culture.
Past participants in the Festival include Oscar-winning actors Vanessa Redgrave, Faye Dunaway, F. Murray Abraham, Mira Sorvino and Geoffrey Rush; directors Anthony Minghella, Michael Cimino, Marleen Gorris, Nikita Mikhalkov and Danis Tanovic; costume designers Sandy Powell, Ann Roth and Gabriella Pescucci; set designers Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo; film editor Pietro Scalia; production designer Gianni Quaranta; and producer Gianni Minervini.
Other notable talent that have participated include Fox's chairman Jom Gianopulos and celebrities such as Eva Mendes, Hayedn Christensen, Helen Mirren, Gerard Butler, Omar Sharif, Paul Sorvino, Geraldine Chaplin, David Carradine, Gerard Depardieu, Giancarlo Giannini, Val Kilmer, Harvey Keitel, Andrei Konchalovsky, Franco Nero, John Lone, Gabriele and Silvio Muccino, Matthew Modine, Laura Morante, Burt Young and director Gabriele Crailese (Italy’s 2007 Oscar candidate). Musicians and singers who have attended include Luciano Pavarotti, Simply Red, Tony Renis, Alessandro Safina, A Ha, and Goran Bregovic.
Capri in the World Institute Board President Tony Petruzzi and Secretary General Pascal Vicedomini will host the festival’s grand opening banquet on Wednesday, December 27 at the famed Hotel La Palma following the opening screening. Five films will be shown daily from December 28th through January 2nd at two theatres in the towns of Capri and Anacapri. Special New Year’s Eve activities will include a noon toast by the Mayor of Capri and a spectacular evening gala to ring in 2006.
Capri in the World Institute and its secretary general, Pascal Vicedomini, are excited to welcome Caffé Kimbo, Fiuggi Mineral Water and Casinò of Venice, Italy as Main sponsor of the festival. While Italian movies contribute a taste of Italy’s culture to the world, Kimbo contributes a literal taste of the special blend of coffee favored on the peninsula. Film distribution giants Cinecittá Holding and Rai Trade will collaborate with the Institute, as well as the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Campania Region of Italy, the Chamber of Commerce of Naples.
